What is the Gospel?
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” — Ephesians 2:8–9
Begin with God
A holy God, and a world that belongs to Him
The Gospel does not begin with us. It begins with God — the Creator of all things, perfectly good, perfectly just, and perfectly holy. He made us, He sustains us, and every one of us is accountable to Him. That is not a threat; it is simply reality, and it is where honest thinking about life has to start.
Because God is good, He cannot shrug at evil. A judge who waves away wrongdoing is not merciful — he is corrupt. God’s holiness means He must deal with sin truthfully. And that confronts each of us with a problem we cannot think our way around.
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” — Isaiah 6:3
Face the problem
We have all sinned — and sin separates
Sin is not merely making mistakes. It is living in God’s world on our own terms — ignoring Him, defying His commands, loving other things more than Him. Measured against His holiness, every one of us falls short: in what we have done, what we have said, and what we have loved.
Scripture is unflinching here, and so is our own conscience when we let it speak. The consequence of sin is not a lower score; it is separation from the God who is life itself — guilt we cannot pay down and a debt that good deeds cannot cancel, because good deeds were already owed.

Behold the Savior
Jesus Christ — who He is and what He did
Into this hopeless situation, God Himself came. Jesus of Nazareth is not merely a great teacher; He is the eternal Son of God, born as a true man. He lived the life we owed — perfect obedience to God, without a single sin — and then He went to a cross He did not deserve.
At the cross, a great exchange took place: Jesus bore the penalty of sin in the place of sinners, satisfying the justice of God, so that guilty people could be forgiven without God ceasing to be just. And on the third day He rose bodily from the grave — God’s public declaration that the payment was accepted and death itself is defeated. He is alive now, and He reigns.

Hear the good news
Salvation is a gift — by grace, through faith
Here is the heart of the Gospel, and the reason this page exists. Salvation is not a wage God pays to good people. It is a gift God gives to guilty people who trust His Son. You cannot earn it by religion, morality, sincerity, or effort — and you do not have to, because Christ has already done everything necessary.
Grace means God gives what we could never deserve. Faith means we stop trusting ourselves and rest entirely on Jesus Christ — His death for our sin, His righteousness for our record, His resurrection for our hope. No one who comes to Him is turned away, and no one who is saved by Him can boast, because from first to last it is the work of God.

Respond
Repent and believe
How does anyone receive this gift? Jesus’ own summons is simple and searching: repent and believe. Repentance is a change of mind that turns the whole person — turning from sin and self-rule to God. Faith is turning to Christ alone, trusting Him as Savior and submitting to Him as Lord. These are not two separate steps but one motion of the heart, and they are themselves gifts of God’s kindness.
Saving faith is not a prayer formula or a moment of emotion. It is resting on Christ — and a life that follows Him. Those He saves, He also changes: not perfection in this life, but a new direction, a new love for God, His Word, and His people.
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” — Mark 1:15
What do I do now?
If God is drawing you to Christ, do not put it off. Turn to Him today — confess your sin to God, trust in Jesus Christ alone, and begin to follow Him.

A faithful local church is not optional extra credit; it is where Christ intends His people to be taught, baptized, and cared for.
